Houston, Los Angeles ...: what future for Trent Williams (Redskins)?

The latest reports from NBCSports suggest that the 2019 season of Trent Williams will certainly be far from Washington. The player is unhappy with the technical staff, and many teams may be interested in one of the best players in the league.

The recruitment of Donald Penn shows that the team is preparing for a future without its star. If an interesting offer arises, it will be studied for sure. A short tour of possible destinations.

1. Houston Texans

Payroll: $ 37,533,418 - Left Tackle Holder: Matt Kalil

The most "logical" destination. Texans have an ambitious team and a talented young quarterback who needs to be protected. In 2018, Houston conceded 62 sacks, the worst total in the NFL. The arrival of a player of Williams' caliber on the most important position of the line would be a welcome reinforcement.

Matt Kalil did not play in 2018 after a difficult 2017 (10 penalties and 6 sacks conceded), and Williams can bring certainties, which is missing in this team.

2. Los Angeles Chargers

Payroll: $ 10,969,251 - Left Tackle Holder: Trent Scott

The Chargers have a full complement, which should allow to apply for the title in the American conference. But the weakest post of the attack is certainly the left tackle, and the hiring of an experienced player like Williams would be a sign of the Chargers' ambition.

Even if Los Angeles is expecting a lot from the young sophomore Trent Scott, Williams would undoubtedly be a reinforcement of weight. Scott has only played 9 games, including only one NFL, and the Chargers are going to need some experience when they face the Patriots or Chiefs in the playoffs.

3. New York Jets

Payroll: $ 22,425,730 - Left Tackle Holder: Kelvin Beachum

Sam Darnold must pass a cap this season, and being protected on his blind side by an All Star of Williams' caliber would certainly take some pressure off his shoulders. Holder Kelvin Beachum is a decent player, but his 2018 season has shown his limits with 9 penalties and 3 sacks conceded.

The depth of strength is a real weakness, the replacement at the tackle station being Eric Smith, training guard without experience in the NFL. With the arrival of Ryan Kalil, this reinforcement would bring a lot of experience to a group that needs it.

4. Jacksonville Jaguars

Payroll: $ 18,195,329 - Left Tackle Holder: Cam Robinson

The Jaguars are coming out of a difficult 2018 year, and want to rebound in 2019. In this perspective the franchise could try to bring Trent Williams to play alongside Andrew Norwell. Cam Robinson, the incumbent, is out of a season of injury (12 games missed) and could learn in the shadows of Williams for several years. The 14 penalties in 18 games illustrate Robinson's difficulty in containing the big pass rushers, which Williams can do every week.
